This year-long lettering journey is inspired by a different master each month. With a sneak-peek into their studios and practices, we will have the opportunity to learn how those working as visual practitioners, calligraphers, and graffiti artists use the same tools we use—and introduce us to new ones—to make letters. So grab your markers and let’s go!

August MASTER

Mike Rohde, the author of two bestselling books: The Sketchnote Handbook and The Sketchnote Workbook, presents workshops around the world that encourage people to use visual thinking skills to generate, capture and share ideas more effectively.

Mike is the illustrator of bestselling books REWORK, REMOTE, The $100 Startup, and The Little Book of Talent.

Mike is a veteran designer who creates usable, compelling design solutions for software and web applications. He lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his wife, 3 children, and canine companion, Rufus.

Be sure to check out the Sketchnote Army Podcast. Mike has recently redsigned the show–complete with new intro music and starts this season with a reverse interview where our friend Michael Clayton interviews him!

NOTE: THIS IS A SINGLE SESSION

In this ~1 hour, 15 minute session, Mike takes us through 4 lettering styles:

• 2-stroke bold lettering style
• 3-stroke bold lettering style
• Condensed lettering
• Stacked lettering & ligatures

And he gave us a sneak peek into some of his most recent sketchnotes and a new sketchbook he is designing!

Be sure to have the following supplies on hand:

• A sketchbook or plenty of paper
• A monoline pen or marker (like a SketchOne, round nib FineOne)

Also included:

• Lettering exemplar
• Demo notes from the session

Please be patient as the PDFs and video downloads. It may take a few minutes.
