This year-long lettering journey is inspired by a different master each month. With a sneak-peek into their studios and practices, we will have the opportunity to learn how those working as visual practitioners, calligraphers, and graffiti artists use the same tools we use—and introduce us to new ones—to make letters. So grab your markers and let’s go!

September MASTER

Trent Wakenight aka Marker Ninja is a graphic facilitator and recorder who believes that lettering is as much a science as an art. His personal goal is to reflect the combination of diverse disciplines in his work combining, for instance, architecture, drafting, graphic design, advertising, sign-painting, and comic book visuals into single representations. What excites him most about lettering is reflecting a client's personality while bringing them a new perspective from other fields and views to create "whoa" moments.

NOTE: THIS IS A SINGLE SESSION

In this ~1 hour session, Trent takes us through 4 lettering styles and offers examples of his work and how he chooses lettering styles to reflect the tone and color palettes.
